Dreamer
Dreamer While walking in a wintery wood, The grim foreboding gloom Seemed misty cold and desolate, A freezing, icy tomb. The silence of this wretched place Was rigid, still as stone, And laden with a misery That chilled all flesh and bone. With heavy heart I sat beneath A dying crippled tree, Its twisted branches, bare and brown, Stretched skyward endlessly. And many thoughts then crossed my mind, Of life and fate and dream, And glittering webs of epic tales Were spun like silken streams. Illusion sung her silvery spell, A shining tapestry, Fast, streaking lights and pulsing stars Soon set me soaring free. I dreamt a myriad different things, But all were still the same, Because no longer was I trapped In this existing Bane. I longed to journey on each path, To see where each did go, But when I raised my head and peered, I saw that, through the snow, The sickly orb that rose afar Formed shadows 'pon the trees, The weak, pale palour that it cast Brought neither warmth nor ease. Although I barely knew, a sigh Escaped my weary frame, For this I knew would always be, And never would it change.
