The tormenting shadows follow their prey-'me'
The defeatist with a shattered heart.
Shoulders slumped-tears trickling down
leaving pale pathways on the mud-streaked face in their wake.
Gloom & helplessness the overbearing burdens
all in all an approach to ultimate doom.
Eyes wander taking in the distressing surroundings-
a battle field with a blanket of ash adorning the once-green ground
smears of dried blood on the broken fence
everything charred & not a sound.
Wait a minute! for I hear the blood-curdling screams-
Cries as the past embraces death.
The haunted gazes-the blood-shot eyes follow my every move.
The cruel devastation all around wrenches my soul.
I fall down on my knees-giving it all up-it's no use!
Nothing can be done-no one can move the merciless
pillars as they stand-as if directing an orchestra of plunder-
a symphony of death!
It's going to go on & on............
this mad rush after power
We are all but helpless bystanders-
the witnesses to the sinful tragic ends.
Humans killing Humans-a father lost-a brother lost-
a son lost-how does it matter?
The shocks are too many-
the persistent trauma making me numb.
Is there no way we can redeem ourselves?
Suddenly my blurred gaze falls on to a small wild flower
growing amidst the death-bed
As if obstinately proclaiming it's existence-
a symbol of life in the land of the dead!
Peace engulfs me-& inspite of the grasp of the darkest despair
-the stifling darkness,there is a flicker of light
-a small hope that one day I-We all will break free
free of these shackles-these clutches of hatred & wrath.
Oh my friend!I still see a future for humanity
