the old fiddler
The old fiddler steps into the spotlight, then slowly rosins his bow He strikes up a tune ,the band all join in, he thinks he's still star of the show But the fiddler hasn't played in tune in awhile, he never did quite play in time The guitar, bass and drums all fill in and out front it's sounding just fine He don't even know they've got him turned low,he hears himself fine on the stage He smiles at the cheering, but the music they're hearing,is just guitar, drums and bass Now hang up that fiddle old fiddler, put away your rosin and bow, Go out and shake hands ,while the guys load the van ,then it'll be time to go Go home and hang up that old black suit, and take off those fake chains of gold When you come again, we'll all pretend, you're still star of the show
