What is Life?

What is life? Never did I consider reaching the twilight of my life to look back and know that secular achievements would qualify as markings of my success. Is it for occupying every waking moment with work, sports, food, sex and vacations or is there a reason for our consciousness? Can one more equation solved, one more pivot table created, one more island vacationed and one more stellar orgasm by my partner medal a successful living? Throw in a musical instrument and some good drinks and the well of memories will be enriched but surely there must be something more before I give up my last breath? Good marriage and good friends bridge some of the distance in bringing meaning to life but that all comes to an end. We leave behind memories in others that will last another life's season and then, it too, is gone.

Why then do we burden ourselves by attempting to live beyond normal expectations? Our relentless pursuit of success is, as it sounds, fruitless. We define ourselves through the eyes of others; we cringe from embarrassment, laugh when we are humored, and cry when we are hurt. Nevertheless, the pendulum of emotions swings to and fro and everyone is at its mercy. Our only constant then is the comfort we find in faith; faith that hard work leads to success, faith that despair may bring revelation. What do you believe in? Will your faith bring you salvation? It is only through faith that you can escape the limitedness of life's successes. It is salvation that will bring you home.
