Angel
Your soft, quivering voice numbed my mind And I felt a chill surge under the skin, A paralysis of muscles, a rigid bliss; The smallness of you, the soft white presence Whispering in acknowledgment to words, My words, meaningless words, unworthy. And I've known you but briefly but am Consumed by a burning tenderness, shaken by a Violence of feeling, longing to protect you, To pull you close to my heart, to feel your Soft, smooth breath glide over the tiny hairs Of my neck, taut-muscled for fear of losing you, Frightening you away, gentle sprite, nervous angel, Fallen from the sky and into my decaying world, A honey drop from heaven, God's mercy made flesh.
