Reverberations of the heart
The crumbled fence a mess of bricks and earth piled up red and brown, soaked wet and slippery Muddied by yesterday's rain, Still clinging thickly to the soles of shoes And the seams of the workers trousers. Workers make their busyness felt Moving between the debris, Eager in pleasing, slow in patching up the damage When will they finish…. Will they ever finish, or will it remain like the debris In my heart, broken by rebuff and torn apart By soft reminders of others vying and jostling For positions and attentions for themselves; And I stand aside alone with sadness, a defeated soul Wounded by rejected thoughts and token care, But a wounded soul all alone….
Yearning long for a gentle touch, a sweet smile A gentle word foreshadowing a felt desire, For me still unexpressed, perhaps, never will; I await patiently for the budding smile , A living twinkle from the placid eyes reaching For the depths of my being, lighting A flicker ever so slight….
